This release captures the final days of the original Black Sabbath lineup with Ozzy – a period that was as intense and turbulent as it was powerful. By late 1978, the boys were deep into the Never Say Die tour, and although things behind the scenes were strained, they still went out there every night and gave it everything they had.
The St. Petersberg show in November was one of the craziest gigs they played together before everything changed. It wasn’t perfect — far from it — but it was real. What you hear on this record is the sound of a band still pushing forward, still loud, still heavy, even with the weight of it all on their backs. These recordings came straight off the soundboard and have been cleaned up just enough — the raw energy is still intact.
A lot gets said about that period – some of it true, some of it exaggerated. Yeah, the guys were tired, there were arguments, pressures, and plenty of outside noise. But when they hit the stage, it was still Sabbath. Bill was hammering away like a madman, Geezer was as solid and inventive as ever, Ozzy’s voice still cut through like a blade, and Tony just focused on making that guitar roar.
This isn’t a polished live album —it’s a snapshot of a band at a crossroads.
Honest, loud, and heavy. It marks the end of an era — the original Black Sabbath lineup, together one last time. See ya on the other side.
Black Sabbath: The Omen (Colored Vinyl) is an unofficial / replica live LP that pulls from Bayfront Center, St. Petersburg, Florida (3 November 1978), with “N.I.B.” sourced from Olympen, Lund, Sweden (21 April 1977).
This one’s basically a tight “greatest riffs” live snapshot from the late Ozzy-era, leaning hard on crowd-pleasers and big, stomping momentum. The 1978 cut gives you that slightly ragged, road-worn energy, and the extra 1977 “N.I.B.”tacked on the end is pure old-school filth in the best way. (As with most colored-vinyl live boots, expect variations in pressing / source quality from copy to copy.)
