Deep Purple’s SPLAT! is due out on 3 July 2026 through earMUSIC, and the Limited Box Set is the most loaded version of the release. According to earMUSIC, the box includes the 180g 2LP gatefold, a 12-page vinyl-size booklet, the album on CD, three exclusive 10-inch records with live recordings from the band’s 2024 tour, and an exclusive 7-inch single featuring the bonus track “Guinnesis,” which is not on the standard studio album and is exclusive to the box. Rough Trade’s US listing identifies the box with catalog number / barcode 4029759215080.

As a record, SPLAT! sounds like Deep Purple leaning back into the part of their identity that still suits them best: hard rock with muscle, class, and enough weirdness to stop it turning into heritage-band wallpaper. earMUSIC is openly pitching it as one of the band’s hardest and heaviest albums in many years, and while label copy always deserves a little skepticism, the track names and early framing suggest a record with more bite than pure nostalgia. This is not being sold as a polite late-career victory lap. It is being presented as a proper studio album with intent.

That is the real hook with a new Deep Purple album in 2026. Nobody needs them to rewrite Machine Head or fake 1972 forever. What matters now is whether they can still sound alive. SPLAT! looks promising because the setup suggests movement rather than museum work. The lineup of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey, and Simon McBride has enough chemistry and enough personality to keep the band from becoming a tribute to itself, and earMUSIC notes they are again working with Bob Ezrin, whose recent work with Purple has generally helped them sound focused instead of overcooked.

From a review angle, the appeal is that SPLAT! seems to understand what late-period Deep Purple should actually be. Not a desperate grab at youth, not a sleepy blues-rock ramble, but a confident hard rock record from players who still know how to make this stuff move. If the album delivers on the promise of titles like “Arrogant Boy,” “Diablo,” “The Lunatic,” and “SPLAT!”, it should land somewhere between classic Purple swagger and the more grounded, modern heft of their recent Ezrin-produced work. That would be the smart lane for them.

The box itself adds real collector value because it is not just bigger packaging. The three live 10-inch records from the 2024 tour and the exclusive “Guinnesis” 7-inch give it a proper reason to exist beyond shelf appeal. For a band with this much catalogue history, that matters. A deluxe edition should feel like it expands the era, not just decorate it, and this one looks like it actually does that.
