One of the records that helped define heavy metal returns for its 50th anniversary.
Originally released in 1976, Judas Priest’s Sad Wings Of Destiny marked the point where the band’s sound became darker, heavier and unmistakably their own. Across tracks including “Victim Of Changes,” “The Ripper,” “Tyrant,” “Genocide” and “Dreamer Deceiver,” Rob Halford, K.K. Downing, Glenn Tipton, Ian Hill and Alan Moore helped establish a blueprint that would influence generations of metal bands.
For this 50th Anniversary Edition, the original 1976 analogue master tapes have been restored and the album has been half-speed mastered specifically for vinyl, preserving the dynamics and power of the original recordings while bringing additional clarity to the pressing.
It also restores the running order originally intended by Judas Priest, opening with the atmospheric “Prelude” before launching into “Tyrant.” This differs from some historical editions of the album and presents Sad Wings Of Destiny as the band originally envisioned it.
This limited 50th anniversary pressing comes on striking Galaxy Yellow/Orange Mix coloured vinyl, complete with the album’s classic original artwork. The colour edition is officially described as a limited-run variant, although a specific pressing quantity has not been publicly stated.
A cornerstone of British heavy metal, given a carefully prepared anniversary pressing fifty years after its original release.
