THIS IS JUST THE CD DIGIPAK BOOK AND CD
By 2010, Motörhead had absolutely nothing left to prove. More than three decades into their career, Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee could easily have settled into playing the classics and trading on one of the most recognisable names in heavy music. Instead, The Wörld Is Yours arrived sounding characteristically belligerent, loud and completely uninterested in behaving its age.
This was Motörhead’s 20th studio album, and it’s a remarkably vigorous late-period record. Producer Cameron Webb, already well established within the Motörhead camp, keeps the production muscular without sanding away the band’s rough edges. Lemmy’s bass remains filthy and enormous, Campbell’s guitar work cuts through everything, and Dee once again demonstrates why the trio had become such a formidable unit.
There’s no reinvention here—and that’s hardly a criticism. The Wörld Is Yours delivers Motörhead’s familiar collision of heavy metal, punk and filthy rock ‘n’ roll with conviction. Lemmy sounds as defiant as ever, while the album’s darker moments remind you that behind the band’s volume and attitude was a songwriter increasingly aware of mortality, war and the less attractive qualities of humanity.
What makes this particular edition especially collectible is the way the album was originally launched in Britain. Rather than appearing first as an ordinary record-store CD, Motörhead partnered with Classic Rock magazine and Future Publishing for an unusual exclusive release. Classic Rock Presents: Motörhead hit UK newsstands on 14 December 2010, giving buyers the complete new album roughly a month before its regular UK retail release on 17 January 2011.
The centrepiece is the album housed in a limited hardback digibook, but the original Collector’s Pack went considerably further. It included a massive 132-page Classic Rock magazine dedicated entirely to Motörhead, featuring interviews and a retrospective covering the band’s then 35-year career, together with a double-sided poster and Motörhead War-Pig pin badge. Contemporary information states that this edition was available for only a limited period.
That makes the Classic Rock edition more than an alternate CD pressing. It’s a snapshot of the final great era of Motörhead, when Lemmy, Campbell and Dee were still releasing genuinely worthwhile new records rather than simply relying on their extraordinary back catalogue.
