This is a particularly cool Dynasty-era KISS live bootleg, capturing the original line-up of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss at Richfield Coliseum, Ohio on 18 July 1979. The concert came during the Dynasty tour, with the band at maximum late-’70s spectacle but playing a set that still leaned heavily on their hard-rock catalogue. The show was reported as sold out with around 14,100 people in attendance.
What makes Armageddon Tonite especially interesting is the set itself. By this point KISS had begun dropping the solo-album material from the show, bringing back heavier catalogue favourites including “Let Me Go, Rock ’N’ Roll” and “Makin’ Love”, alongside Dynasty material such as “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” and Ace Frehley’s “2,000 Man.”
The circulating recording of the 18 July show is documented as an audience recording, so this should be regarded as an archival bootleg rather than a modern soundboard recording. Parts of the concert were also filmed by local television for news coverage.
