This is a particularly interesting KISS collector’s release built around the 1986–87 writing and demo sessions for Crazy Nights. Rather than simply reproducing the finished album, Sword And Stone digs into material that was either radically changed, abandoned or never officially released by KISS at all, giving a glimpse of what the album might have sounded like before Ron Nevison’s polished production took over.
The centrepiece is “Sword And Stone”, the Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick and Desmond Child composition recorded during the Crazy Nights period but ultimately left off the album. Kulick has said the band recorded a substantial demo of the song at Electric Lady with Eric Carr, and that he was disappointed when producer Ron Nevison rejected it. The composition subsequently surfaced through versions by Paul Dean and Bonfire, turning the unreleased KISS recording into something of a cult favourite among collectors.
The rest of the LP is just as intriguing, mixing alternate material with unreleased songs including “Suspicious,” “Hunger,” “Dial L 4 Love,” “Nine Lives,” “Have Mercy Baby” and “Promise To The Moon.” These tracks come from the wider pool of material being developed around the Crazy Nights period and show just how much music existed beyond the eleven songs eventually selected for the finished album.
The edition pictured is the 2026 Lafayette Records pressing, issued on limited numbered coloured vinyl with an embossed sleeve and poster. An orange marble variant is specifically documented, although other coloured copies are also being sold by specialist bootleg retailers. This is an unofficial collector’s release, not an authorised KISS/Universal pressing.
