DIO: A Decade Of Dio 1983-1993 Boxset

$350.99

If you want one box that captures the core studio power of Dio in one hit, A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993 does it beautifully. Originally issued by Rhino as a 6CD and 6LP retrospective, the set pulls together the first six Dio studio albums, from the untouchable steel of Holy Diver through to the darker, heavier mood of Strange Highways. Rhino describes it as a collection of the band’s first six studio albums with newly remastered sound, making it less a throwaway repack and more a proper archive piece for collectors and longtime metal diehards.

What makes this set so appealing is the run itself. You are getting the records that built the Dio legacy in real time: the fantasy-metal perfection of Holy Diver, the arena-sized mastery of The Last In Line, the theatrical grandeur of Sacred Heart, the sharpened hooks of Dream Evil, the leaner muscle of Lock Up The Wolves, and the tougher, more modern edge of Strange Highways. Taken together, it shows just how much range Ronnie James Dio had without ever losing that unmistakable voice and authority.

Packaging-wise, Rhino notes that the box features new artwork by Marc Sasso, the artist long associated with Dio’s visual world, which gives the set a strong sense of continuity with the classic era while still making it feel like a premium retrospective rather than just six loose albums in a carton. The vinyl edition also became especially desirable because it included a bonus 7-inch with the non-album tracks “Evil Eyes (Original Version)” and “Time To Burn.”

For collectors, the key product numbers are worth noting. The main vinyl box UPC is 081227944407, while the 6CD box is associated with UPC/catalogue number 081227944414. Discogs also lists the individual LP catalogue numbers inside the vinyl set, including R1 22836, R1 25100, R1 25292, R1 25612, R1 26212, and R1 45527, with the bonus 7-inch listed as R1 555548.

There was also a later Rhino vinyl reissue announced for October 31, 2025, limited to 3,000 units, with a Rhino.com-exclusive version limited to 1,000 copies that included the bonus 7-inch. So if you are seeing newer copies in the market, that is likely the 2025 splatter-vinyl edition rather than the original 2016 run.

As a shelf piece, this is a killer metal box set because it is built on albums that matter. There is no filler concept here. It is simply a heavyweight run of Dio records presented in one clean package, and for anyone building a serious classic metal collection, it is the kind of set that earns its space fast.

Cover Art / Packaging Details

The box uses new artwork by Marc Sasso, whose style is deeply tied to Dio’s classic visual identity. Rather than moving away from the band’s established imagery, the presentation keeps that fantasy-metal atmosphere intact and gives the collection a unified archival feel. The 6LP version is the more collectible configuration, especially the editions with the bonus 7-inch single.
