Black Sabbath Pitchblack Playback

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Black Sabbath’s landmark debut at our exclusive listening session in the dark on Number 10’s beefy 18-speaker sound system in the heart of Hackney. Hear and feel every detail of this classic played through MQA’s lossless audio technology from the comfort of a sofa or comfy chair with no distractions.

From the Pitchblack Playback website

Hear forthcoming album releases and classic LPs on a powerful cinema sound system, in the dark. Meditate on music.

Produced and devised by Ben Gomori.

The last decade has been a depressing episode in audio history where sound quality has played second fiddle to convenience. Low quality MP3s were designed to make the most of slow internet speeds and expensive storage; cheap earphones have been bundled with audio players; hi-fi separate systems have been forgotten in place of portable speakers. What’s more, we’re told the album as an artform is dying. But not all of us agree with the status quo.

Pitchblack Playback is a series of listening sessions inviting the music-loving public to hear upcoming album releases and classic LPs like never before in cinemas and other intimate spaces.

But that’s not all. To ensure that there’s no distractions and that you’re totally immersed in the music, our events will be staged in the dark.* It’s just you and the music.

Pitchblack Playback isn’t aimed at audiophiles; it’s simply for lovers of damn good music who still value the album as an artform and who want to experience something special. We promise that once you’ve heard music like this, you’ll want to come back for more. Rib-shaking, skin-tingling lows; pristine, wide highs; it’s how music was supposed to be heard. Everyone deserves to experience it.

*We dim the lights to their bare fire safety regulation minimum and providing sleeping masks for the full lights-out experience.

Almost exactly 50 years to the day, we celebrate Black Sabbath’s groundbreaking debut, powered by MQA’s lossless, high-fidelity audio technology.
