Before the stadiums, the pyrotechnics and the excess became as famous as the music, Mötley Crüe sounded like a gang that had somehow managed to get itself into a recording studio. Too Fast For Love is that band captured at the beginning: rough, hungry and considerably more dangerous sounding than the increasingly polished records that followed.

Originally released independently through Leathür Records in November 1981, the debut introduced Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee with a collision of glam rock, punk attitude and heavy metal. The riffs are dirty, the production has an appealingly primitive edge, and beneath all the image and Sunset Strip mythology there are already some remarkably effective songs. The band’s official discography dates the original release to 10 November 1981.

It’s also a fascinating record in the context of what came next. Mötley Crüe would become heavier, slicker and enormously more successful, but there’s an immediacy to Too Fast For Love that they could never really reproduce. Nikki Sixx’s songwriting already had the hooks, Mick Mars supplied the grit, Tommy Lee played with an energy that made everything feel slightly out of control, and Vince Neil’s unmistakable voice completed a sound that was already recognisably Crüe.

For the album’s 45th anniversary, BMG has returned to the familiar nine-track Elektra-era configuration and given the record a new 2026 remaster. This limited edition presses that remaster on striking Red & Black Marbled Vinyl. Both HMV and European distributor listings confirm the coloured pressing and the 30 October 2026 release date.

For collectors who don’t need the enormous Super Deluxe box, this is arguably the sweet spot in the anniversary campaign: the classic album, newly remastered, presented as a distinctive coloured-vinyl pressing without all the additional archival material. And for an album this sleazy, loud and unapologetically early-’80s, red and black vinyl seems just about perfect.
