Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds: Ghosteen

When one thinks of Rue Morgue Records it is a name that is usually associated with the harder and faster aspects of music. That’s fine! That is pretty much who we mostly cater for, and have catered for, over the course of our existence.

But that is not to say we don’t dip the old toe in other waters and there are times in life where one does need to tame that savage beast inside. It can’t always be bludgeon riffola and death to all who don’t adhere to loud guitars, pounding drums and screeching vocals.

Because when it comes to Heavy music, there is no one heavier than Mr Nick Cave and his band of Bad Seeds. If you dare let them into your soul they will take you to a place so dark, so grim, so utterly painful and heavy that it is sometimes hard to escape.

But within the depths of pain there is always a glimmering light of hope that shines your way through the grooves of his records.

Especially his last three.

I can quite categorically say to you now, hand on heart – these are some of the most played albums in my collection. They are easily the most beautiful and many, many times over they have helped me through personal grief of losing one close to me – whether through death or failed relationships.

With his latest album Ghosteen, I have found myself often curled in a ball lamenting past mistakes and folly.

The music contained therein will enwrap itself through every synapse of your mind and won’t let go. You share his pain and equate it to your own. His words are the exact words you’ve always been looking for but fail to utter as your mind cannot operate like that of a true wordsmith master. He knows how to piece together words that will mean so much to you.

Like no other.

Most of you will ignore my words here. That’s ok. I’m trying to sell you records and make a buck but for those of you who truly know me, truly believe me – hear me now, this is not just a slab of music but a sheer masterpiece.

I hope you all will give this a chance. And by that I mean you digest this work fully. Taste it. Live with it. Breathe it in and out. It will change you. Like it has me.

My gift to you friends, is a recommendation to listen and have this album – permanently in your individual collections.

I leave it all in your capable hands…
